Old Tech Gadget Lust: HTC One A9

Last night was a bit of a downer for me. Frustrating, when a truth dawns on me and a self-created bubble pops. I often refuse to accept the truth because of the will to power, as in my consciousness is what is most important to me, my perceptions and ideas. My race and ethnicity are a part of me but not one that I particularly like to think define me, even though it does.

One thing that I end up doing is meandering through electronics. It is a fun game, finding little gems, highly depreciated and good value ones. It is a game, and no different than a woman going shopping for fashion.

So here's one.

Behold, the HTC A9.

And you can buy it for $99.

(Full disclosure, that is an ebay affiliate link which I just created an account for).

I want to buy it. I shouldn't because I already have a better product: the iPhone 6s. But I want to because this is such a good deal.

It also appears that it has comparable audio quality to the HTC 10, which is $300 new. I was looking at the HTC 10 as well, which I also don't need, but could find a use for. You see, I do ridesharing and so often carry multiple devices to entertain myself while waiting for the next ride in my car.

I would use this machine for podcasts. It is fairly small, and it has expandable storage so I can slot in a 128gb sd card easily. It does only have a Snapdragon 617 chip which is a major bummer. The Snapdragon 617 is built on 28nm and it appears about the same speed as the older Snapdragon 801.  The Snapdraon 625 is built on 14nm. And so on.

But it appears good enough for podcasts. Lately I've been finding the iPhone 6s podcast app is getting stupid and inconsistent. I should just buy pocketcasts on iOS for $4, but meh. Going back to the A9, it has an AMOLED screen which is always a plus. And HTC does some wizardry which results in responsive phones which overperform their specs. And just looking at the thing it has polished aluminum corners and it looks great.

So I got that out of my system. I'll post other little consumerist quirks in the future, which should actually save me money by getting it out there.
